lets take a look at this article...

"4 M'sian students attempt suicide after scolding."

FOUR Year Six pupils of a school here attempted suicide on Wednesday, purportedly after their teacher had threatened them with disciplinary action for doing badly in their Bahasa Malaysia examination... . ....

When the girls were asked why they were feeling sick, one admitted that they had taken the medicine. The teacher then rushed the four to the Jempol hospital. The pupils' families were immediately notified.

"One of the girls brought her parents" diabetes and hypertension medicine to school the following day and the four decided to consume the tablets,' he said.

According to a hospital source, the teacher had scolded the four for their poor results on Tuesday and allegedly told them that they would be punished.

'They also wrote a note saying that they were committing suicide as they had disappointed their teacher.'

Two of the girls were reported to be in serious but stable condition.

A typical news heard almost day in day out right? Isn't that more worrying? This news article is just one of the many cases whereby most notably, teenagers committing suicide, something which seemed like one of the easy way out for them when they encountered setbacks or problems.

Is it the expectations from parents and teachers nowadays?

Or is it the media which is portraying it as a sort of "road" or "way out"?

1) Yes, it is getting more and more competitive nowadays, every parent wants the best for their child, sending them for courses, best schools, etc. Hoping that their child would stand out amongst the rest of the kids. Teachers wanting students to score well, having the "best" class and a result to show to the principal. All these are perfectly normal and fine but has that sort of environment combined with the media, made it into a lethal combination? Young people now are being very competitive and wants to be the best, outlasting their peers and all, yes, it is perfectly fine again. Lets look at what makes it lethal.

2) Media, I am sure everyone watches dramas, movies and all, I love watching tv's and movies too. I am not against the violence or even any of the suicide acts in the movies, because without those scenes, the movie would be incomplete and "spoilt", I love horror and gore movies!~.
What's worrying are what the people, the celebrities do outside. I shall not name them but you all can see the news and find them with lots of problems with drugs & attempted suicides. The worse part, they are the so called "idols" of mostly teenagers who worship them and look upon them as their god instead of their parents.

In the past, there were definitely lesser attempts of suicides by teenagers compared to now. When we receive setbacks or disappointment, we would try to work harder or vent our frustrations through other less lethal ways or even more commonly, simply to give up. I know that giving up is not an honorable action but compare it to suicide, which is the worse option? Nowadays, whenever students could not take any blow, they simply chose the most easy way out, leaving those who care for them to clear up their mess, push the blame around & feel the guilt. To them, maybe they were just doing what their idols do.

Okie, lets think from the student's point of view, maybe they are really depressed, have no way out, can't see anymore future etc etc etc. If something e.g examination could make him/her choose the suicidal path and they feel they have the right to end their "precious" life, wouldn't everyone be jumping off their buildings or drink detergents? who doesn't have setbacks and who never failed before? If a so called perfect and wonderful life is being pursuit and that is the standard of living, I guess its better to do more charitable acts and go to paradise and stay there and don't come back to mother earth. Who doesn't have problems, even Kings faces problems. =)
